Congress president Sonia Gandhi will deliver the convocation address at the Aligarh Muslim University next month, becoming the second woman to do so - 87 years after the first.
The announcement was made after a meeting, presided over by AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Zameeruddin Shah, to discuss various issues for the annual convocation, slated for Feb 16.
The first woman to deliver the convocation address of the university was its first chancellor, Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum of Bhopal, on Jan 26, 1925.
