(a) Many have been admired, some have been revered, but the affection of all classes of the Indian people has come to me in such abundant measure that I have been overwhelmed by it. I can only express the hope that in the “remaining years I may live, I shall not be unworthy of my people and their affection. To my innumerable comrades and colleagues, I owe an even deeper debt of gratitude. We have been joint partners in great undertakings and have shared the triumph and sorrows which inevitably accompany them.

His attachment to the Ganga: Nehru has been attached to the Ganga ever since his childhood. As he has grown older, this attachment has also grown. He has watched the changing moods of the Ganga. He thought of Indian history which is attached to the Ganga. Conclusion: He wished a small handful of his ashes be thrown in the Ganga.
(ii) What punishment was given to Socrates by the judges? What was Socrates' reaction against it?
Ans. Socrates was summoned to appear before the court for his trial. He was fearless. Socrates made an influential speech against his trial. He told them they would gain nothing by taking away the last few years of his life. The judges listened to him. They condemned him to death. But Socrates was not disturbed in the least. He was willing to die many deaths for what he believed to be right.

(i) How did the people of the first village treat Guru Nanak and Mardana?
Ans. People of the first village were rude and inhospitable. They did not let Guru Nanak and Mardana stay anywhere in the village. So, they dis had to spend the night in the open.
(ii) How did the great and eventful life of Socrates end?
Ans. Socrates had to die by drinking a cup of poison and thus ended the great eventful life of a philosopher.
(iii) Why did Nehruji call the Ganga the river of India?
Ans. The Ganga is the river of India because she is loved by Indian people.
