To showcase the importance of the language and the day, Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14th September to celebrate and to honor the event as when it was acquired as one among the official languages in India. In 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted and recognized the Hindi language written in the Devanagari Script as the official language of the Republic of India.

Apart from English, the Union Government of India started using the Hindi language officially. The Hindi language is one of the 22 recognized languages of India. It is said to be a collective effort of Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Beohar Rajendra Simha, Seth Govind Das, Maithili Sharan Gupt, and Kaka Kalellkar in making Hindi the official language of the Republic of India. This all happened on the 50th birthday of Beohar Rajendra Simha who magically illustrated the Constitution of India’s final manuscript.

To mark the gravity of the language and the day, Hindi Diwas is celebrated in offices, colleges, schools, and organizations. Many colleges, schools, and educational organizations motivate students to participate in competitions, cultural and literary programs. The President of India, on this day, gives recognition to the people for their endless and selfless contribution towards the Hindi language. The felicitation ceremony takes place in the Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi. In view of the Covid-19 Pandemic, this year, the celebration will be held in a new pattern.

Hindi Diwas is celebrated across the country to commemorate the luminaries in the stream of Hindi literature. Anyone who wants to celebrate Hindi Diwas this year can pick up a Hindi book which is written by a notable author of Hindi literature.
