A mathematics teacher's 30-mark totalling error resulted in a student failing the class X board exam, leading the Gujarat State Education Board (GSEB) to impose a collective fine of Rs 64 lakh on 4,488 teachers for similar mistakes in class 10 and 12 exams, according to media reports.

During the review of results related to student re-assessment requests, the education board identified that a mathematics teacher had committed a basic addition error.
Consequently, the board has imposed fines on a total of 4,488 teachers this year for inaccuracies in the total marks for class 10 and 12 board examinations. GSEB officials indicated that these discrepancies will result in a cumulative fine of Rs 64 lakh for the affected teachers, as reported.

Board officials expressed their astonishment upon discovering that a significant number of the approximately 100 teachers who made errors of 10 marks or more were, in fact, mathematics teachers.
Meanwhile, a student from Gujarat, who failed in Class 12 board exams scored 705 out of 720 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 exam, according to media reports. While the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET UG centre-wise results 2024 on Saturday (June 20), netizens have started sharing a comparison of two scores, highlighting a significant difference between the student's Class 12 marks and NEET exam scores.
The report claimed they were unable to confirm if the marksheets belonged to the same person. However, local sources informed TOI that she was registered as a 'dummy' student at a nearby school while attending coaching sessions at a science center in Ahmedabad.
