MSUSU polls: Girls bag posts of VP & GS, NSUI defeated
poll
Two female students were elected as the vice president and general secretary of the Maharaja Sayajirao University Students' Union (MSUSU) polls held here yesterday.

While Rati Mehta of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was elected as the vice president, Priyanka Patel, an independent candidate of Happy Group, was elected as the general secretary. Both the posts were previously held by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress. The NSUI had been occupying these two top posts since 2011.

Polling for the posts was held yesterday and the results were announced late last night.

While the post of vice president was reserved for a girl candidate, there was no reservation for the other post.

It is for the first time in the 78 years history of the MSUSU, both the top posts have been bagged by girl students.

Apart from these posts, 29 faculty representatives were also elected yesterday.

Patel, who earlier represented the NSUI, was elected as the vice president of the union last year. However, she left the NSUI and formed her own independent group to contest the election.

The president of the students' union is appointed by the vice chancellor of the M S University, which is reserved for teachers category. Likewise, its treasurer is also appointed by the VC from the teachers' category.
