Schools for primary and junior classes, from Nursery to Class 7 have reopened after two long years of closure imposed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The West Bengal government, in an official notification directed the District Magistrates to act as Nodal officers to coordinate with upper primary and primary schools for setting the offline classes in motion from February 16, 2022 onwards.
Other orders issued by the West Bengal state government include frequent sanitization and adherence to Covid-appropriate behavior. District magistrates are required to ensure that all attendees of the schools: Students, teachers, non-teaching staff are abiding by the Covid norms. Notably, all the teachers and staff members of the schools were instructed to report at their respective schools on February 15, 2022, so that physical classes could begin from February 16 onwards.
Earlier, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had stated that the schools will reopen for junior classes, only if the Omicron variant subsides and there is no other variant of concern. Following this, the Covid count in the state improved, leading to the reopening of government schools from Nursery to Class 7. With the decision to resume junior classes, the West Bengal schools are now operating for all classes.
