Communication skills should be made an integral part of university curricula, experts said at a two-day national workshop on basic pronounciation and speech training that ended Sunday at Mangalayatan University here.

Trainers and communication experts also underlined the importance of basic communication skills in the modern world.

Mangalayatan University vice chancellor S.C. Jain said communication skills development programmes should be introduced in all universities.

Jain said "excellent knowledge of English was a necessity today to secure good jobs".

He asked students to overcome diction challenges through modern tools and techniques.

Eminent teacher-trainer K.P. Pandey said speech and communication programmes should be part of every academic course.

"Students are coming from diverse parts of the country. They have to overcome their diction problems. This could be done through focused programmes on speech and pronunciation," he said.

Rajneesh Arora, associate professor at the English and Foreign Languages University, Lucknow, asked the faculty and researchers to focus on documentation of Indian English.
