Good news for students of Uttarakhand, who belongs to economically weaker sections. Now the economically weaker sections (EWS) quota will be applicable in the colleges of the state. Under this, the general category students will get 10% reservation at the time of admission, which are from economically weaker sections.

Orders have already been issued in this regard on Tuesday. Principal Secretary Higher Education Anand Bardhan has issued an order in this regard as per the directions of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Bardhan has asked the administration of the registrars and degree colleges of all the universities of the state to implement this order. With this mandate, the students coming from poor families of the unskilled category will get 10% reservation while enrolling in state government universities, 104-degree colleges and 15 government-aided colleges in the state.

Let the government of the Central Government decide to give 10 per cent reservation to students belonging to economically weaker sections of the general category. It is gradually being implemented in different states of the country. In the admission to medical courses this year, the benefit of 10 per cent reservation under EWS has been given to the students.

Poor students of unreserved categories in Uttarakhand will now get 10 per cent quota in admission to government-run universities and colleges.

In order to this effect was issued on Tuesday by Principal Secretary Higher Education Anand Bardhan in compliance with a directive of the Union Ministry of Human Resource.

Students from poor families in unreserved categories in the state will get the benefit of quota while taking admission to around half a dozen government-run universities, 104-degree colleges and 15 government-aided degree colleges.

Bardhan has asked registrars of all universities in the state and administration of degree colleges to implement the order.
