Luxury carmaker BMW India on Wednesday unveiled four cars here, including BMW i8, which was first seen in Hollywood flick ''Mission Impossible 4''.
It also launched all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo at Rs 42.75 lakh, all-new X5 and BMW M6 Gran Coup at the 12th Auto Expo 2014 here. The cars from the BMW stable were unveiled by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
“Locally-produced at BMW plant in Chennai, the all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo will be available at dealerships across the country from March 2014,” BMW Group India President Philipp von Sahr said, adding that it will be available in a diesel variant.
The Gran Turismo is a completely new vehicle concept in its class that combines coup elegance with spaciousness, he said. Speaking about its hybrid car i8, he said it will come as a completely built-up (CBU) unit to India by the end of 2014.
Besides, BMW M6 Gran Coupe will also be launched as a CBU unit by mid 2014. The new X5 will be locally produced at company''s Chennai plant and is expected to hit market by the third quarter of 2014 year.
“The intelligent plug-in hybrid system in the BMW i8 combines the benefits of an electric motor and a petrol engine into an extraordinary driving experience: highest efficiency and maximum dynamics are simultaneously possible. With BMW eDrive, the new BMW drive technology, the battery can be charged from any mains socket or while driving,” he said.
The German auto major had launched the i8 as a concept car in 2011 and the supercar made an appearance in Hollywood movie ''Mission Impossible 4''.
BMW India also launched MINI sub-brand ''John Cooper Works'' with an exclusive range of John Cooper Works accessories, which include special exterior accents, interior features and an aerodynamic package.
The BMW Group introduced MINI as a premium brand in India in January 2012 with the launch of MINI Hatch, MINI Convertible and MINI Countryman.
